I visited John yesterday to choose my first ever budgie and came home with two stunningly beautiful cock birds. I had done my homework over the last few weeks and had a lovely big cage ready, complete with swings, toys for playing, shredded paper for foraging, small branches and ladders. I had bought far too much of everything in advance so will rotate things as time goes by for variety. John gave me enough food and grit to get me starte, along with lots of advice, demonstrations on handling, catching and letting them out for exercise. I could have stayed there for hours watching the birds and chatting.
When I got home I let them slowly make their way into their new home and then re-arranged things a bit better once I knew what I needed to do. I watched them and spoke to them quietly a few times and they just watched me back! After about an hour one of them started to chirrup and move about a bit but the other one just stayed where he was but looking perfectly happy and curious.
It was a joy to watch them and I didn’t want to leave them at bedtime. I didn’t hear a sound from them all night but when I went to say hello to them this morning I got a cheery chirp from the more confident one. This afternoon I offered my finger to the quieter one and he stepped on to it quite easily so I moved him onto a swing and he seemed quite happy there, the other one climbed up a ladder to have a look at him.
I have seen them eating today and as the cage is on wheels I moved it into the conservatory when I went shopping so they could watch the goings on in the back garden. Also I could lock them in there as I have 2 dogs who I will not trust with them for some time as they have noticed now that the birds move, I think they thought they were ornaments yesterday!
This has been a lovely experience and so happy I found John who couldn’t be any more helpful and pleasant, assuring me that I can ask him any questions if I need to going forward.
I couldn’t recommend him and his birds more highly, his birds are healthy, happy, clean and all you could possibly need to give your new budgies a continuing happy healthy life.
    Thank you.
